Q6.What have you learnt about technologies from constructing your media product?

Whilst research and planning and helping to evaluate my finished media product I have used different media platforms as a means of showcasing my media coursework.

Different technologies I have used consist of;

  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Blogger
  • Scanner
  • Microsoft word/PowerPoint
  • I phone
  • Prezi
  • Slideshare
  • Free online surveys.com
  • Digital SLR camera
  • Wideo
  • Soundcloud

The digital camera allowed for me to take the clearest and best pictures possible in order to get professional looking pictures for my final product,I managed to use the digital camera for pictures against the white screen and pictures in an outside setting.I didn't fully utilize the cameras functions such as flash and zoom as I took my pictures within the day and I didn't feel zoom was the right function to use as I preferred to get close to the main artist instead of zooming to capture relevant facial expression.

Adobe Photoshop was instrumental in creating my final product as it enabled me to crop pictures and edit layers using tools such as magic wand and lasso tools to cut away irrelevant blocks and colours to ensure my product looked like a real media product.

A scanner assisted me some of the research and planning tasks such as when comparing magazine sketches to real life media products I also used shot plans and page layouts as a way of planning my final product.

Prezi, slideshare and Freeonlinesurveys.com and Wideo were ways in which some of my research tasks and also my evaluation tasks were presented.I felt it was important to use a variation of technologies so my coursework could stand out and i could express my skill in using different forms of ICT.

Soundcloud and my Iphone were used as a way of using my voice recordings to explain some of my evaluation I hadn't used neither of these technologies before and learnt I needed to carefully plan my answer to get a clear coherent speech to eradicate mistakes whereas my other presentational methods could be corrected by the click of a button.

Double Page Spread article

The novelty of meeting this controversial artist is that he has been gone for such a long time and the place we have decided to meet him is at the place,he got arrested on that un-forgettable night’(as described so himself). Now Young Mad B has re-invented himself as Blakka and ‘Pound 4 Pound’ has an exclusive into he new venture into the UK rap scene. Raised in Mill Hill otherwise known as ‘Kill Hill’.’Blakka became involved with the street life from a young age and it wasn't long before in this very alleyway he sold crack to an undercover police officer and was sentenced to 5 years in Feltham. He never realized his potential at school due to his endeavours outside of the gates but thought his creativity was unparalleled. To this day BLAKKA still believes he wouldn't be were he is now without the help of his friends and family and the love of his crew. This has enabled him to prosper and achieve his ambitions. Now what was his experience like in prison? BLAKKA himself has told us that during his time in prison he has come to really appreciate the finer things in life and wants to make legitimate money and means of living. With aspirations to be a family man and be a husband one day,he is destined to make his fairy tale story be even more of a success.

The key to success in the music field is to make sure you have a consistent key fan base and to keep them loyal by putting out real music you know your, fans and the people that listen to you can relate to. Another thing which my prison cell mate told me on that emotional day of my release in your majesty's finest is to let all those people who doubt you that your about. Becoming a rap artist has now allowed him to take fully advantage of his self proclaimed creative genius and is due to release his new mix-tape,’Nothing Was The Same’. We asked what has inspired the music on the mix-tape and he told us that through the struggles of his hardships and young- life has managed to break into the UK rap scene. When asked if the people on on the streets would listen and appreciate his music he replied to us ‘There gonna listen to my music whether they like it or not’.This persistent attitude is one of the reasons we feel he is destined to succeed. so damn soft and real rap has gone down the drain’.The North London rapper exclaims the streets need something like him and hes here to deliver. ‘Never in the history of UK rap have they seen something like me i'm something out of the ordinary a diamond in the rough .’You don't know whats coming people’.How do you feel your next projects are going to give you the edge in your bid to be the best? All my next projects are going to be from †he heart and i'm not going to make music just to put figures you know? If i'm going to put something out for download and for my fans its gonna be something worth listening to.You smell me?

From the start of our encounter with BLAKKA we have got the impression that he is willing to go to all means necessary to be successful and he plans to do this by collabarating with the best artists in the genre such as ‘Blade Brown’ but also admits he must work his way up to this through hard work and consistency. Leaving Feltham prison has allowed him to become a more diverse artist and says “I have ambitions to work artists from other genres such Lady K” who's recently emerged as a hot upcomer in the techno scene. Expect a lot from BLAKKA this year. When he decides to step up his ideas and ambitions and become the rap star he so despratly wants to achieve BLAKKA wants to expand hi ventures into America where he believes artists such as Kanye West and Jay-Z will want to work with his music. We at ‘POUND 4 POUND’ are still hoping for the best. As we depart from our encounter with the infamous artist we hope to see what he can do this year and if we can expect to see BLAKKA stateside and sunning on the beach instead of in a park.

Front cover analysis

For the two front covers i analysed i thought it was important to use two covers of the same genre but used different conventions which helped my to get a broader range of ideas of my magazine front cover, one contrasting feature would be one uses a close up image of the artist to show facial expressions whereas the other uses a mid to long shot to show the reader what the artist is wearing.

Contents Page Analysis

When analysing this contents page I took notice of the importance of the colour scheme which was simple yet effective, and something i chose to adopt when making my own pages

My Sketches vs Real Music Magazine

Sketches from
By comparing my own magazine sketches to existing rap magazine pages, I have gained a wider knowledge of layouts and has assisted me in following conventions of rap magazines. I compared my sketches of a front cover , contents page and a double page spread which has enabled me to now gain an idea of different things I should contain in my magazine pages, things such as image sizes, size of masthead and position of taglines have now helped me in now creating an effective final product.

Costume Plan

This thick gold chain is an example of the costume and accessories that have inspired the costume for my artist, the striking gold chain is a common convention for most rappers in my genre who want to show off their wealth and power
These 'skull candy headphones' which I plan for my artist to wear on the double page spread connote the artist is concentrated on his music only as they cover his whole ears giving the impression to the reader of the passion he has for music

Shot Plans

When composing planning for my shot plan sketches, I looked at some images from existing magazines of the genre I wanted to replicate such as 'XXL' and 'The Source' to give me some ideas before I actually went out and took pictures.

Production Schedule

I have created a production schedule which enables me to set key deadlines and a description of what each task requires me to do .I believe if I stick to this production schedule I won’t be squeezed for time and will enable me to use my time productively and therefore make a better product.

Making The Questionnaire

Designing the questionnaire!

In order to design an effective rap magazine to use as my final product i decided to make a questionnaire in order to receive some feedback on different design options. I done this through the use of research and making questions in a word document which i would then input into a site called 'free online surveys'it would enable my peers to enter in i link i have provided and give responses so I can take into consideration the most popular answers for my final product. Here are the questions for my questionnaire;

Here I am inputting the questions to my questionnaire so it can be made accessible to my peers,so they can fill it out and help to to collect results

Video Research

This video is research into the British rap scene and gives off the feel as to what I want to compose in my magazine What i liked about the video is that it showed the modern fashions of rap artists such as the use of jewellery in the form of the artists chain and rings and also the language used by the artist to connect with the audience by use of slang which i hope to incorporate into my media product to initiate a connection with my target market.
